Davis Memorial
Davis Memorial - In the nearby town of Hiawatha, Kansas, one of the most moving and entrancing sights lies in the town cemetery. There, John Davis, one of the town's wealthiest sons, spent seven years erecting a monument to his love and wife, Sarah. The couple had been married for fifty years when Sarah died in 1930 and John began this $100,000 memorial, quite an outlay during the Great Depression. The memorial includes eleven life-sized statues of the couple made from Italian marble, stone urns, and a marble canopy. Be sure not to miss the statue of an angel with Sarah's face, kneeling at the foot of John's grave. |

Sprink Creek Golf Course
Spring Creek Golf Course - This 18-hole public golf course opened in May 2006, so its greens and facilities are all brand new. Located in Seneca, Kansas, the course covers 6,488 yards with a creek, three dams, and three ponds. The course was designed by Chuck Ermisch of Chuck Ermisch Golf Design and features 4 holes on the front nine with water hazards and a back nine with trees and narrow fairways. The course includes a full-sized driving range, clubhouse, putting green, and chipping greens. Spring Creek Golf hosts regular tournaments and special events, so be sure to check the calendar before you visit. |

St. Joseph, Missouri
St. Joseph - From Jesse James and the Pony Express to the explorers of the Lewis and Clark Expedition, the charming town of St. Joseph Missouri boasts a colorful and varied past. Set on the peaceful Missouri River, this town, once called Saint Michael's Prairie, has served as an expedition camp, a trading post, and is known as the birthplace of the Pony Express, that overland route that used dashing riders on horseback to carry mail to points west of Missouri. Once considered the Old West, St. Joseph now offers many museums, a junior college and university, symphony, theater, chorus, festivals, and a performing arts association. |
